TT Autonomous delivers a bold, technological voice built for contemporary brands, interfaces, editorial layouts, and identity systems. The family emphasizes squareness and angular internal counters, creating a tactile, engineered aesthetic that reads as both progressive and robust. Designers created TT Autonomous to embody the visual language of autonomous electric transport and contemporary mobility while remaining practical for diverse design tasks.
TT Autonomous in numbers
Styles, glyphs, languages, and features
The family includes 29 styles: 14 regular styles, 6 monospaced styles, 7 reversed styles, and 2 outline styles. The basic subfamily contains 790+ glyphs, while monospaced fonts include 630+ glyphs. TT Autonomous supports 183 languages and exposes 28 OpenType features — including ligatures, alternate characters, slashed zero, old-style figures, and 12 stylistic sets — to give you typographic control at every size and context.
Design story
Inspiration and intent
The idea for TT Autonomous began during a ride in an electric autonomous taxi at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. That moment prompted a question: what kind of type would represent autonomous electric transport? The team pursued a wide, slightly mechanical sans-serif whose proportions nod to automobile logotypes. From that seed, they expanded the theme into a full family that expresses technological confidence through squared shapes and engineered spacing.
Monospaced subfamily
Why a monospace was added
Recognizing that code lines for autonomous systems often display in monospaced fonts, the designers introduced a dedicated monospaced subfamily. They preserved the main family’s squared character while ensuring true monospace metrics. The result: a distinctive monospace with consistent rhythm and highly readable forms, and oblique monospaced styles that function as genuine italics rather than slanted romans.
Outline and reversed styles
Display-ready variations
TT Autonomous includes two outline styles tailored for large-scale headlines and titles. Unlike outlines generated in graphic editors, these fonts received careful refinement to eliminate narrow or unstable areas so they render crisply in production. The seven reversed styles expand creative options for high-contrast layouts, signage, and motion graphics where inverted fills and negative-space play a key role.
Technical details
Character set and OpenType features
The family ships with comprehensive Latin coverage and extended glyph sets in its principal styles. OpenType features include discretionary ligatures, stylistic alternates, old-style figures, tabular figures, and slashed zeroes. Designers can enable stylistic sets to tune personality or activate tabular figures for data-heavy interfaces and dashboards.
Language support
Global readiness
TT Autonomous supports a broad set of languages (183 in total), including Cyrillic variants. The family accommodates multilingual projects in branding, UI localization, editorial publishing, and wayfinding systems. For the full language list and specifics, refer to the family’s product page for exact coverage and glyph counts. Use cases and pairing recommendations
Where TT Autonomous excels
Use TT Autonomous for headlines, logotypes, packaging, tech branding, vehicle identity, editorial covers, posters, and interface headers. Its engineered geometry and wide proportions make it ideal for creating a strong visual presence. Pair the family with a neutral humanist sans or a restrained serif for extended body text to balance personality and readability. For data-driven UIs, prefer the tabular figure sets from the monospaced subfamily.
